Thrissur: The Kerala police have informed the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) that efforts are on to conduct lie-detector test on six friends of actor Kalabhavan Mani as part of the investigation into his death.
In a submission before the commission member K Mohankumar here on Friday, the police said applications for this have been filed before the Chalakkudy magistrate.They also stated that they have not yet been able to identify the exact cause of Mani's death and investigations are still on.
In another submission, the home secretary has informed the commission that the state government has already issued the notification handing over the probe into Mani's death to the CBI. A copy of the gazette notification dated June 10 was also submitted before the commission by the government representative.
Mani's brother R L V Ramakrishnan had earlier filed a complaint before the commission alleging laxity in the probe into the death of Mani. Based on this the commission had directed the state government to submit probe progress report and to take steps to hand over the case to appropriate agency if the present investigating team is not able to make any headway. Following this, the state government had submitted a brief report to the commission. But the commission rejected it and directed the government to submit a detailed report.
A statement submitted on behalf of DGP Loknath Behera said the police had probed multiple angles like murder, suicide, and accidental consumption of poison. However , no convincing evidences have been received so far to prove any of these angles.
